The Be Media Smart Community Training Programme swings into action during October with a small army of community-based volunteers signed up to become Be Media Smart trainers.
Applications for the free online training for community-based trainers has now closed and a series of six online ‘Train the Trainer’ sessions are scheduled to take place on October 12, 17, 19 and November 4, 8 and 21.
This training, developed and delivered by Dr Ricardo Castellini da Silva, a Media Literacy educator and a Postdoctoral Researcher with DCU Institute for Future Media, Democracy and Society (FuJo), is designed to empower community-based learning facilitators with the necessary knowledge, tools, techniques, and resources to deliver Be Media Smart Workshops in their own communities.
Over 170 volunteers expressed interest in the free media literacy training, prompting the MLI team to explore adding even more training dates in December.
In addition to the online training, Ricardo, in partnership with TG4, is also planning a face-to-face training session for Irish language speakers, and a dedicated online session for Public Library staff.
So, keep an eye on the MLI and Be Media Smart websites for updates.
