Waterford Sustainable Living Initiative (SLí) launched its new Erasmus+ Project, Dismiss Media Manipulation in September 2024. The project is a collaborative effort to enhance media literacy and counter mis- and disinformation, with particular focus on climate-related issues.
The rise of climate misinformation can distort public perception of the issue and potentially stop meaningful action being taken to address the climate crisis. This project is designed to provide people with accurate information to empower them to identify and dismiss potentially deceptive media tactics.
The first part of the project is an innovative social media campaign that aims to equip individuals with the knowledge and information to understand and assess misleading narratives and make informed decisions based on credible sources. The campaign is now live on Instagram and Facebook, with posts appearing on a weekly basis.
By engaging audiences where they are, and using a unique approach, the campaign aims to build resilience against the spread of false information. Additional resources to strengthen media literacy skills will also be produced later in the project.
The initiative is being implemented in partnership with Kupuj Odpowiedzialnie (Poland) and Agenda 21 (Romania).
