There are currently four funding calls open that may be of interest to media literacy stakeholders and practitioners. Deadlines for applications are in February, March and April.
Adult Literacy for Life Collaboration and Innovation Fund
Established by the National Adult Literacy for Life Programme, this grant is for projects and activities that support adults with unmet literacy, numeracy, digital and financial literacy needs.
To support Ireland’s first National Financial Literacy Strategy (which will be published in 2025), the Consumer and Competition Protection Commission (CCPC) has contributed €250,000 to the 2025 Collaboration and Innovation Fund for local and national projects that support innovative and collaborative ways to:
- improve financial literacy skills for adults with unmet literacy, numeracy and digital literacy needs
- create a more literacy-friendly approach to accessing financial services.
It is recommended that the guidelines for the 2025 Collaboration and Innovation Fund are read before filling in the online application form.
The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. on Friday, 7 February 2025.
European Media and Information Fund
The Boosting Fact-checking Activities in Europe Fund aims to support projects from independent fact-checking organisations, which play a key role in limiting the negative effects of disinformation on the public discourse and democratic processes.
In light of recent developments surrounding elections and referendums across Europe, this initiative seeks to support fact-checking projects that address, analyse and counter disinformation related to electoral campaigns in 2025.
The deadline for applications is 11:59 p.m. on Friday, 28 February.
Creative Europe Programme (CREA) Programme
Since 2014, Creative Europe has been supporting projects that foster cultural diversity, promote artistic expression, and boost the economic potential of the creative industries. The Creative Europe Programme (CREA) encourages knowledge-sharing and exchanges on media literacy policies and practices to enable the development of innovative cross-border media literacy initiatives and communities across Europe, in a continuously changing digital media landscape, taking into account current user behaviour among various age groups.
It is expected that this call for proposals will result in:
- pan-European consortia, scaling up best practices across national, cultural and linguistic borders, and developing and upscaling media literacy tools and actions to ensure the transfer of such practices to the widest possible audience, covering different types of media delivery modalities
- forums for exchange of best practices around specific age groups, groups with limited media literacy skills or access, or those at risk of social exclusion
- support for media literacy professionals to adapt their practices to fast developing media formats and changing media consumption patterns.
The deadline for submissions is 4 p.m. on Thursday, 6 March.
Citizens’ Engagement and Participation Programme
The CERV Programme promotes citizens’ and representative associations’ participation in and contribution to the democratic and civic life of the EU by making known and publicly exchanging their views in all areas of EU action.
This call aims to support projects promoted by transnational partnerships and networks directly involving citizens. These projects will gather a diverse range of people from different backgrounds and genders in activities directly linked to EU policies, giving them an opportunity to actively participate in the EU policymaking process, and thus contribute to the democratic and civic life of the Union.
The key priorities are:
- promoting exchanges on future EU policy priorities and challenges
- countering disinformation, information manipulation and interference in the democratic debate
- promoting citizens’ active engagement and democratic participation.
The deadline for submissions is 4 p.m. on Tuesday, 29 April.
