CyberSafeKids (CSK) was set up in 2015 to provide expert guidance to primary schools, children and to parents in the safe and responsible use of all communications technologies.
To date, CSK has spoken directly to over 30,000 children aged 8 -13 and to 8,000 parents. CSK is a trusted voice, a provider of high quality support services, and a fierce advocate for children’s online safety.
We equip children, and those with a duty of care for them, with the skills needed to navigate the online world in a safe and responsible manner, while making the case for stronger regulation and investment in digital literacy by the Government.
What we do:
- provide information talks for children, parents and teachers
- provide support, training and tools for schools
- carry out research to build an evidence base
- advocate: communicating the research, connecting at EU & internationally, using Ireland’s position as EMEA HQ to deliver a safer internet for children.
The most recent parental awareness campaign aims to promote the idea that parenting online should be approached with the same diligence and care that parenting offline is.
Central to the social media campaign is a video that illustrates how the same rules must apply in the online world as apply in the offline world – with the intention of breaking down the arbitrary separation between the two and promoting equal supervision and parenting in both.
“As parents we teach our children how to ride a bike safely, how to cross the road and to be safe around water by teaching them to swim. Why then do we leave them to it when they’re on their phone or device and allow them to sit in their bedrooms unattended, or let them post and interact in games and apps unmonitored? This video and the #samerulespply campaign will help parents provide the support and care their children need for navigating the online world.”
