The Media Literacy Ireland (MLI) Making Sense of Science in MediaHorizon events took place online in October 2020.
On Friday 2nd October, Making Sense of Science in Media: Communication and Health explored the challenges and risks around communicating scientific data in a health crisis like Covid-19 and the role of media literacy in helping to create a more receptive environment for complex messages.
This event was moderated by Dr Juliana Adelman, Assistant Professor at Dublin City University and speakers included:
- Helen Dolk, Professor of Epidemiology & Health Services Research at the University of Ulster
- Barbara Gormley, Researcher, Lecturer MSc. Science and Health Communication and Ph.D. Candidate in Dublin City University

This event was moderated by Prof. Pat Brereton School of Communications, Dublin City University and speakers included:
- Conor Murphy, Professor of Geography and the Irish Climate Analysis and Research Units at Maynooth University
- Trish Morgan, Assistant Professor in the School of Communications at Dublin City University
- Philip Boucher-Hayes, Journalist and Broadcaster
