Media Literacy, Information and Journalism: Empowering Citizens-Enabling Journalists

Today, more than ever, access to reliable and trustworthy information is critical in order to make informed choices. But in a congested media environment, audiences can’t always recognise or access reliable and trustworthy information. Taking place in the newly refurbished Cinema 2 in the Irish Film Institute on November 1st, this year’s annual MLI conference explores how MLI members can facilitate a better understanding of the media landscape that underpins the production of reliable and trustworthy information and services.

In addition to the usual opportunities to network and share experiences and information about your media literacy experience, this conference will also provide members with an update on progress to date as well as offering members a chance to hear from excellent speakers and develop their own social media campaigning skills.

This conference also offers members a say on MLI business such as the election of three new members of the Steering Group and a chance to hear first about how ‘Be Media Smart 2” is shaping up.

All members should have received an invitation and are requested to confirm their attendance via the Eventbrite link contained in the invitation. If you did not receive an invitation please email medialiteracy@bai.ie.

This year, there is also the opportunity to participate in a free mini ‘Masterclass’ where Craig Dwyer from Forachange.org and Ronan Costello from Twitter will be working together to help MLI members make the best use of social media for campaigning. To register for this session please email medialiteracy@bai.ie.
