MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Martina Chapman

Martina Chapman is an independent consultant in Media Literacy and is National Coordinator for Media Literacy Ireland

Martina Chapman is an independent consultant specialising in media literacy policy and strategy development, research and project management. Martina has almost 30 years experience across the media industry including staff positions with the BBC and Ofcom in the UK and she has worked with organisations such as the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the European Audiovisual Observatory, the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities, the European Broadcasting Union and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, as well as a number of European regulatory bodies, Public Service Media and media institutes.

She is the National Coordinator of Media Literacy Ireland and the Be Media Smart campaign on behalf Coimisún na Meán – a role that she loves because of the diversity and engagement of so many MLI members.

She is currently serving as the Independent Chair of the National Counter Disinformation Strategy Working Group. Previously, she served on the Council of Europe CDMSI sub-committee on Quality Journalism in the Digital Age (MSI-JOQ). Martina is also an Associate of the European consultancy firm, Wagner-Hatfield.

Prior to setting up her own consultancy she was the BBC’s Editor for Media Literacy where she led the development and delivery of a number of social action and media literacy campaigns, including the award-winning ‘Share, Take Care’ campaign.
