“We need a vaccine against misinformation” Dr. Mike Ryan, head of WHO’s health emergencies program.
The coronavirus outbreak has sparked what the World Health Organization is calling an “infodemic”. The Be Media Smart campaign was developed by members of Media Literacy Ireland to help people tell the difference between reliable and accurate information and deliberately false or misleading information.
We all have a part to play in fighting COVID19. In addition to the recommendations from the HSE about washing hands, maintaining physical distance and respiratory etiquette, there are also things we can do to counter misinformation circulating in relation to COVID19. Make sure to use official sources for COVID19 information (HSE, WHO, the Department of Health) and please Be Media Smart and Stop, Think and Check all other COVID19 information.
Together, (apart) we can do our bit to help the fight against COVID19.
